Prime Minister's Adviser and PM Office Spokesperson Mahdi Amin today said that the government's prime objective is protecting human rights and ensuring the rule of law and freedom of speech in the country. He highlighted that the current government aims to empower the people and restore their rights, contrasting this with past authoritarian regimes that deprived citizens of their rights.

Amin made these remarks while addressing the 'Bengal Delta Conference-2026', organized by the Dhaka Institute of Research and Analytics (DIRA), at a hotel in the capital. He noted that the past 16 years of authoritarian rule saw severe political repression and human rights violations, including enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, custodial deaths, and false cases.

He reassured that over the past five months, there have been no incidents of human rights violations, political repression, custodial deaths, or enforced disappearances. Amin expressed the government's commitment to maintaining this positive trend and bringing those responsible for past human rights violations to justice.

The government's specific goal is to ensure that no offender escapes punishment and that no innocent person is subjected to harassment. Amin also mentioned that every ministry is working with specific 180-day targets to improve administrative efficiency. He reassured that the government will ensure the rights and freedoms of every citizen.
