Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has warned the public about fake AI traffic case messages circulating, advising people to be cautious of scams. These messages, purportedly from the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), claim traffic law violations and provide a website link for fine payment. Many recipients, like Niaz Morshed, found the messages suspicious as they did not own vehicles or had not committed the alleged violations.

The DMP Traffic Division issued a cautionary notice on May 25, clarifying that no such messages are being sent by them. They outlined seven key points to help the public verify the authenticity of traffic case messages and avoid falling victim to scams. These include checking for manual analysis of violations, official signatures on mailed notices, and legitimate contact numbers for inquiries.

Key Points to Verify Traffic Case Messages:

1. AI technology is used experimentally at various Dhaka intersections to identify traffic law violations. 2. Violations are initially analyzed manually, and notices are sent via mail. 3. Official notices include the signature of a responsible officer. 4. Legitimate messages may come from numbers 01320-042207 and 01320-042227. 5. Fines can be paid through online banking (Upay and CBBLL). 6. DMP will never ask for PIN codes, passwords, or OTPs. 7. For information, contact 01320-042207, 01320-042227, or the national emergency number 999.
