The inaugural days of Fete de la Musique 2023, organized by Alliance Française de Dhaka in collaboration with various cultural and artistic institutions, have been marked by significant audience turnout and a rich array of events. The festival aims to create cultural bridges through music, successfully bringing together musicians, students, art enthusiasts, and people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
One of the highlights of the festival was the performance by French-Mauritian percussionist and composer Suvash Dhanuchand. Renowned internationally for blending traditional tabla sounds with modern electronic music, his project 'Tablatronic' stands out in the contemporary fusion music scene.
The festival commenced with an electronic music workshop at Butternut Jazz Cafe in Dhanmondi, led by Suvash Dhanuchand. Participants gained hands-on experience in electronic music production, rhythm programming, live improvisation, and contemporary performance techniques.
The most anticipated event was the 'Tablatronic' live performance at the Goethe-Institut Bangladesh. The performance, combining live percussion, digital technology, and spontaneous creativity, left a lasting impression on the audience. The collaboration with Bangladeshi musician Mohammad Zakir Hossain, who played the traditional ektara, further enriched the performance, showcasing a unique blend of cultural heritage and modern creativity.
Organizers believe this performance epitomizes the festival's core philosophy, highlighting cultural tradition, contemporary creativity, and international collaboration. It also demonstrated how traditional music can be presented in new forms to engage younger generations. The event underscored the 'Tablatronic World Peace' project's mission to foster connections and unity through music.
