Director General of the Department of Archaeology Sabina Alam today said that search, survey, and excavation activities are ongoing to preserve archaeological sites endowed with history and tradition. She mentioned that new site reports are being prepared and land information is being collected from district administrations to preserve these sites. The gazette is under process to preserve five archaeological sites in Rangpur division, with plans to increase this number gradually.
Seminar on Rangpur Museum
Sabina Alam made these remarks while talking to journalists after attending a seminar titled ‘Rangpur Museum: Reality and Potential’ at the Tajhat Zamindar Bari auditorium in Rangpur city. The seminar was organized by the Rangpur Museum and was attended by visitors, tourist police, and representatives of civil society.
The Director General highlighted that excavation activities are ongoing following searches and surveys of archaeological sites across the country. She noted that since the establishment of the Rangpur Regional Office, its activities have accelerated. Alam expressed hope that all the archaeological sites in Rangpur division will be preserved in phases.
Key Figures and Initiatives
Additional District Magistrate Christopher Himel Richil presided over the seminar. Additional Divisional Commissioner Md Ashraful Islam, Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ruhul Amin, Rangpur Archaeology Department Regional Director AKM Saifur Rahman, and Rajshahi Regional Director Dr Ahmed Abdullah spoke as special guests. Various initiatives of the department for the preservation and development of archaeological sites in the Rangpur region were highlighted during the event.
Sabina Alam, along with high-ranking officials, also visited various places and corners of the Rangpur Museum located at the Tajhat Zamindar Bari in the Tajhat area of the city. The museum visit was part of the efforts to promote and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the region.
