RAJSHAHI, July 31, 2026 — Palash Chowdhury, a 48-year-old resident of Malopara, Rajshahi, has been arrested for making defamatory posts on social media about the wife of the Prime Minister's Defense Adviser, Brigadier General (retd) A K M Shamsul Islam. A team from RAB-5's Rajshahi Sadar Company apprehended Chowdhury from a rented house in Ranibazar early this morning.

Background of the Case

The case was filed by Nur Mohammad, the personal officer of the Prime Minister's Defense Adviser, after he discovered false, obscene, and defamatory statements being spread on Facebook and other social media platforms under the name of the Defense Adviser's wife. The posts were attributed to several Facebook IDs, groups, pages, and Telegram channels.

Investigation and Arrest

Following the filing of the case under the Cyber Security Act at Gulshan Police Station on July 2, four individuals were initially arrested. The investigation led to the arrest of Palash Chowdhury, who RAB claims admitted involvement during preliminary interrogation. He is now being handed over to Gulshan Police Station for further legal action.
