The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal No. 3 due to a deep depression that has formed over the Bay. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) issued a special weather bulletin stating that the monsoon depression over the Northwest Bay and adjoining Odisha-West Bengal coasts intensified into a deep depression. It is currently located near latitude 21.2°N and longitude 88.1°E and is expected to move north-northwestwards, crossing the West Bengal-North Odisha coasts by this evening.
The deep depression is situated approximately 425 kilometers west-southwest of Chattogram, 430 kilometers west of Cox's Bazar, 220 kilometers west-southwest of Mongla, and 260 kilometers west-southwest of Payra. Under the influence of this system, squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay, and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
The maximum sustained wind speed within 48 kilometers of the deep depression center is about 50 kilometers per hour, rising to 60 kilometers per hour in gusts or squalls. The sea will remain rough near the center of the deep depression. All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay have been advised to remain in shelter until further notice.
Additionally, an inland river ports warning indicates that rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary south/southeasterly gusty or squally winds with speeds of 45-60 kilometers per hour are likely over several regions including Rajshahi, Pabna, Dhaka, Faridpur, Kushtia, Jashore, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, and Cox's Bazar. River ports in these areas have been advised to hoist cautionary signal No. 1 (R) one.
