A police investigation has revealed that the murder of Jagannath University (JnU) student and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader Md Jobayed Hossain was the result of an alleged love triangle. Investigators have accused Jobayed's student Barjis Shabnam Borsha, her boyfriend Md Mahir Rahman, and Mahir's friend Fardin Ahammed Ailan of orchestrating a premeditated killing. The charge sheet, submitted to a Dhaka court, details the alleged motive, planning, digital evidence, and execution of the murder.
Alleged Love Triangle and Betrayal
According to the charge sheet, Jobayed had been working as Borsha's private tutor for a long time, during which they developed a romantic relationship. The charge sheet further alleges that the two also had a physical relationship, although Borsha was already in a relationship with Mahir. After Mahir learned about Borsha's relationship with Jobayed and confronted her, Borsha falsely blamed Jobayed, alleging that he possessed her private photographs and videos and was blackmailing her into maintaining a physical relationship with him.
Premeditated Murder and Digital Evidence
Mahir, incited by Borsha, sought help from his friend Ailan to carry out the murder. Digital evidence showed that Borsha shared Jobayed's live location and movements with Mahir on October 19, 2025, shortly before the murder, as part of the alleged plan. When Jobayed arrived at Borsha's residence for a tutoring session, Mahir and Fardin Ahammed Ailan were lying in wait. Mahir allegedly stopped Jobayed under the pretext of a conversation, engaged him in an altercation, and stabbed him on the right side of the neck with a switchblade. Jobayed tried to flee upstairs but collapsed on the third-floor staircase and died from excessive bleeding.
Jobayed's brother, Enayet Hossain, filed the case with Bangshal Police Station on October 21, 2025. Investigating Officer SI Ashraf Hossain of Bangshal Police Station confirmed that Jobayed was murdered over a love triangle. Police have submitted a charge sheet against three people, including his student Barjis Shabnam Borsha, in connection with the killing. The prosecution has cited 50 witnesses in the case.
"We had so many dreams for Jobayed. He was the light of our family. Since we lost him, our parents have not stopped crying even for a moment. The entire house feels empty without him," complainant and Jobayed's brother Enayet Hossain told BSS. "We want exemplary punishment for those who brutally murdered my brother. They should receive such punishment that no other parents have to endure this pain and no one else has to lose a brother in such a tragic way," he added.
