A special drive conducted by the Narsingdi district administration resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of illegal current and ring nets at Madhabdi Hat in Narsingdi Sadar upazila. The operation, which took place following a tip-off, led to the detention of three individuals who were fined a total of Tk 71,000. The seized nets, valued between Tk 150 million and Tk 200 million, were destroyed in a public burning.
The mobile court, led by Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Md. Khalid Hossain Shimul, found that the illegal nets were being traded openly. Most traders fled upon sensing the presence of the authorities, but three sellers and custodians were apprehended. The drive was supported by the Narsingdi Sadar Upazila Fisheries Office, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Madhabdi Police Station, and Battalion Ansar.
The illegal nets were burned and destroyed at an open space near Road No. 5 on the Narsingdi–Madaniganj road. Narsingdi Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Asma Jahan Sarkar and Upazila Fisheries Officer Raunak Jahan were present during the destruction. The district administration emphasized that such operations will continue to protect the country's fisheries resources, conserve biodiversity, and maintain law and order.
