The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 555 people and recovered illegal firearms, ammunition, and a substantial quantity of narcotics during intensive month-long special operations across the capital in June as part of its ongoing drive against crime.
Significant Seizures
According to DMP's monthly crime statistics, police filed 363 cases involving illegal arms and narcotics. Of these, nine were arms cases, leading to the arrest of 16 suspects, while 354 were drug-related cases in which 539 people were apprehended. The operations resulted in the seizure of four foreign-made pistols, 88 rounds of ammunition, seven other firearms, and a large quantity of drugs.
Drug Bust Details
The anti-narcotics drives also yielded a significant haul, including 233,412 yaba tablets, 407.281 kg of cannabis, 2.909 kg of heroin, 319 bottles of phensedyl, 76 bottles (450 ml) of foreign liquor, three litres of local liquor, 24.07 litres of illicit liquor, 34 cans and four bottles of beer, 74 tapentadol tablets, and 144 bottles of Eskuf syrup.
Ongoing Efforts
The DMP said it would continue intelligence-led special operations to curb the proliferation of illegal arms and narcotics, strengthen public safety, and maintain law and order across the capital. These operations are part of a broader effort to combat crime and ensure the safety of Dhaka's residents.
Why This Matters
The crackdown on illegal arms and narcotics is crucial for maintaining public safety and reducing crime in Dhaka. By seizing a significant amount of illegal substances and firearms, the DMP is taking a strong stance against criminal activities that pose a threat to the community. This ongoing effort is essential for creating a safer environment for all residents.
