Alexander Zverev has advanced to the French Open final for the second time in his career, defeating Jakub Mensik 7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in the semifinals. The German star, who is yet to win his first Grand Slam title, will play in the final on June 7. His opponent will be either Flavio Cobolli or Matteo Arnaldi, who are competing in the second semifinal.
Zverev, seeded second, is now considered the favorite after top seeds Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic were eliminated. The 29-year-old Zverev played like a top contender, dominating the first two sets before Mensik, a 20-year-old Czech player making his first semifinal appearance, won the third set. Zverev regained control in the fourth set to secure his place in the final.
This marks Zverev's third Grand Slam final, having previously reached the French Open final in 2024, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz is not participating this year due to injury. Zverev is determined to win his first Grand Slam title in this year's final.
