Tawbah, meaning 'to return,' involves leaving the path of sin and disobedience and turning back to Allah. It requires sincere remorse for one's actions, a firm resolution to avoid repeating the sin, and seeking Allah's forgiveness. Allah is merciful and accepts tawbah until the moment of death.
The process of tawbah includes true remorse for the sin, completely abandoning the sin, making a firm decision not to repeat it, and seeking forgiveness from Allah. Performing wudu (ablution) and offering two rakat namaz (prayers) after committing a sin is recommended.
Allah has taught us the language of seeking forgiveness. Examples include the dua of Prophet Adam and Hawwa, Prophet Yunus, and the believers. The 'Sayyidul Istighfar' is considered the best dua for seeking forgiveness.
Three conditions are essential for tawbah to be accepted: abandoning the sin, feeling remorse, and resolving not to repeat it. If someone's rights were violated, they must be restored or compensated. A significant sign of accepted tawbah is positive change in life, such as increased good deeds and decreased desire for sin.
