DHAKA - State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit has said the July mass uprising did not emerge overnight. It was the result of years of public anger against the authoritarian rule, absence of democracy, repression, enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings and human rights violations. He made the remarks while addressing a discussion marking July Martyrs' Day-26 at Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner's Office as the chief guest.
Roots of the Uprising
The state minister highlighted that the July movement was not the achievement of any single individual or political party. Instead, it was the outcome of the collective struggle of the country's pro-democratic people. He emphasized that the incidents of enforced disappearances, killings and other actions that caused deep public anguish during the Awami League's tenure under the rule of Sheikh Hasina must never be repeated.
Responsibility of Political Forces
Amit stressed that ensuring these incidents are not repeated is the responsibility of all political forces. He also mentioned his ongoing work in flood-hit areas, including Khagrachhari, Chattogram, and Cox's Bazar districts, as part of coordinating and overseeing the government's rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts following recent heavy rainfall and flash floods.
Member of Parliament from Khagrachhari Abdul Wadud Bhuiyan attended the event as the special guest. Senior government officials were also present on the occasion.
