Two brothers impersonating doctors were caught in Bogura, fined 40,000 taka, and released without facing severe legal action. The imposters, Mahidur Rahman Chowdhury Rumon and Motiur Rahman Chowdhury Rumman, had been misleading patients by prefixing 'Doctor' to their names. They operated from a pharmacy in the Shere Bangla Nagar area, offering treatments despite only having completed a DMF course.
The raid, led by the National Consumer Rights Protection Department's Assistant Director, Mohd. Mehedi Hasan, along with RAB-12 and district police, uncovered expired medicines and evidence of malpractice. The fake doctors confessed to their crimes but were let go after paying the fine, sparking public outrage and skepticism about the raid's effectiveness.
Local residents expressed frustration, accusing the authorities of a'show raid' that failed to hold the imposters accountable. The National Consumer Rights Protection Department defended their actions, stating that the accused had confessed and promised in writing not to repeat their offenses.
This incident highlights the challenges in regulating healthcare practices and protecting patients from fraudulent practitioners in Bangladesh.
