Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Hoque Milon announced that the government will soon begin promoting assistant teachers to head teacher positions following the disposal of a High Court case. This move will fill the vacant head teacher positions in government primary schools.

Responding to a written question from ruling party lawmaker Khairul Kabir Khokon, MP (Narsingdi-1) in the Jatiya Sangsad, the minister clarified, "The writ petition No. 73 of 2023 regarding the promotion of head teachers, filed with the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, has recently been disposed of. Promotions to the post of head teacher will be given very soon."

Dr. Milon explained that the vacant head teacher posts will be filled through the promotion process. He noted, "Once promotions to the post of head teacher are completed, the vacant head teacher positions will be filled."

Under the previous recruitment rules, 65 percent of head teacher posts were filled through promotion. However, under the new recruitment rules, 80 percent of the head teacher posts will be filled through promotion. The minister mentioned that although the new recruitment rules had been formulated, the promotion process was suspended due to the pending court case. Now that the case has been disposed of, 80 percent of the posts will be filled through promotion in accordance with the new rules.

This development is expected to significantly impact the primary education sector by ensuring that schools have the necessary leadership to function effectively. The promotion process will help stabilize the educational environment and enhance the quality of primary education across the country.
