The government has appointed new vice-chancellors at four public universities, including Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Pirojpur Science and Technology University, and Rabindranath University in Sirajganj. The appointments were announced in separate notifications by the Ministry of Education on Monday. Additionally, the newly established Lakshmipur Science and Technology University has appointed its first vice-chancellor. The previous vice-chancellors at these universities have been granted leave to join other institutions.
Professor M.M. Hemayet Jahan, a professor of Entomology at Patuakhali Science and Technology University, has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor. Professor Kazi Rafiqul Islam, who previously held the position, has been granted leave to join Bangladesh Agricultural University.
Mohammad Chhabirul Islam Howlader, a professor of Arabic at Rajshahi University, has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of Pirojpur Science and Technology University. The previous vice-chancellor, Professor Mohammad Shahidul Islam of Dhaka University, has been granted leave to return to Dhaka University.
Professor Tahmina Akhtar, a professor at the Institute of Social Welfare and Research at Dhaka University, has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of Rabindranath University. The previous vice-chancellor, Professor S.M. Hasan Talukdar of Dhaka University, has been granted leave to return to Dhaka University.
Mohammad Hanif, a professor of Applied Mathematics and treasurer at Noakhali Science and Technology University, has been appointed as the first vice-chancellor of Lakshmipur Science and Technology University. The tenure of the new vice-chancellors will be four years, though the President can cancel the appointment at any time if necessary. The vice-chancellors are required to be present on campus at all times as the chief executive officers of their respective universities.
