Melbourne University has invited applications for the 2026 Human Rights Scholarship, open to both domestic and international students. This scholarship aims to support postgraduate students engaged in human rights-based research. Eligible candidates can apply for either a Master's by Research or a PhD program.
The scholarship not only focuses on academic research but also emphasizes contributing to real-world human rights advancements. Key areas of research encouraged by this scholarship include law, policy, social justice, indigenous rights, international human rights frameworks, development, and humanities.
Applicants must submit a detailed statement highlighting their human rights work, volunteer experience, and the social impact of their research. They must also be enrolled in a relevant program and cannot have previously completed a research degree at the same level.

The scholarship offers an annual stipend of approximately AUD 44,500, with support for up to two years for a Master's and 3.5 to 4 years for a PhD. The total financial support can range from AUD 89,000 to AUD 155,000 depending on the level and duration of study.
The results of the scholarship will be announced in February 2027.
