In a vibrant display of community collaboration, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) and Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) today inaugurated a tree plantation programme on the university campus. The event marked the beginning of Tree Plantation Week-2026, aimed at expanding greenery, fostering environmental awareness, and combating climate change.
KUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Maksud, KMP Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan, and Commandant (DIG) of Police Training Centre (PTC), Khulna, AKM Mosharraf Hossain Miazi, led the initiative by planting saplings. The Vice-Chancellor emphasized the critical role of trees in maintaining ecological balance and ensuring a safer future for generations to come.
Prof Maksud urged all segments of society to participate in tree plantation and conservation efforts. He highlighted KUET’s ongoing initiatives to create a green, clean, and environment-friendly campus, expressing gratitude to KMP for their partnership in observing Tree Plantation Week-2026.
The programme saw the participation of senior police officials, deans, directors, the registrar, heads of departments, teachers, officers, and employees from KUET. Indigenous, fruit-bearing, forest, and medicinal tree saplings were planted across the campus.
Speakers at the event underscored the importance of joint efforts between educational institutions and law enforcement agencies in promoting environmental conservation and sustainable development. They called on every citizen to plant and nurture at least one tree, contributing to a greener and more livable Bangladesh.
