Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has secured the top position among private universities in Bangladesh in the Nature Index Institutional Rankings. Overall, IUB ranks fifth among all research and educational institutions in the country and third among universities. In the field of physical sciences research, IUB also leads among universities in the country.

The Nature Index, an international research evaluation platform, ranks institutions based on research articles published in leading science and health journals. This evaluation is based on research published from February 1, 2023, to January 31, 2024. IUB's Nature Index share score stands at 0.63 from a total of four research articles.

Two research articles by Jewel Kumar Ghosh, Director of the Computational Physics Wing at IUB's Center for Computational and Data Sciences (CCDS) and Assistant Professor in the Physical Sciences Department, contributed to this ranking. The articles, titled 'Scale Without Conformal Symmetry in Hydrodynamics' and 'Hydrostatic Equilibrium in Multi-Weyl Semimetals,' were published in the European Physical Journal C and Journal of High Energy Physics, respectively.

Additionally, a research article by Anwar Zaman Sajib, an associate member of IUB's Center for Astronomy, Space Science and Astrophysics (CASA), titled 'An Accurate Measurement of the Spectral Resolution of the JWST Near Infrared Spectrograph,' published in Astronomy and Astrophysics, was also considered in this ranking.

IUB's Vice-Chancellor, Professor M. Tamim, stated that meaningful scientific research requires a long-term academic environment, international collaboration, and a research-based culture. IUB has been consistently working to create such an environment over the past few years, and this recognition reflects the university's growing research maturity.

IUB's Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Daniel W. Lund, highlighted the importance of the Nature Index, noting that it evaluates research published in the world's top scientific journals. IUB's position in this ranking underscores the university's international visibility and research quality.

Launched in 2014, the Nature Index is considered one of the most important global indicators for evaluating high-quality scientific research. Research articles published in internationally recognized journals such as Nature, Science, Nature Physics, The Lancet, Cell, Journal of High Energy Physics, and Astronomy and Astrophysics are considered in this index.
