Dhaka University, with financial and technical support from UNICEF, is launching a 'Graduate Diploma in Child Protection' at the Institute of Social Welfare and Research to strengthen child protection systems in Bangladesh. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will soon be signed between Dhaka University and UNICEF. A meeting was held at the Vice-Chancellor's conference room, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor ABM Obaidul Islam, to discuss the program. The program aims to enhance the technical skills and knowledge of social workers, psychosocial counselors, and relevant professionals to effectively assist vulnerable children, women, and families. Vice-Chancellor Professor ABM Obaidul Islam expressed gratitude to UNICEF for their cooperation and hoped the program would contribute to improving the capacity of child protection social workers at national and community levels.
Key Participants and Objectives
The meeting was attended by Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Abdus Salam, Treasurer Professor M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Director of the Institute of Social Welfare and Research Professor Mahbuba Sultana, Head of UNICEF's Child Protection Section Natalie McCully, and several faculty members from the Institute of Social Welfare and Research. The collaboration aims to prepare professionals from both government and non-government sectors with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide effective assistance to at-risk children, women, and families.
