Pashchim Anggarpara Govt. Primary School in Lakshmipur's Ramganj upazila has been recognized as the best government primary school in Chittagong Division for the year. The school, located about 22 kilometers from Lakshmipur district headquarters, was established in 1885.
The recognition was announced in a letter signed by the chairman and member-secretary of the Primary Education Medal Committee on June 4. The school was honored for ensuring 100% enrollment, maintaining regular attendance, keeping dropout rates near zero, improving teaching quality, and consistently excelling in co-curricular activities.
Currently, 423 students are enrolled, with 11 teachers. The school's 11 classrooms are adorned with artistic murals and educational materials. Each classroom is named after prominent Bangladeshi poets, writers, and freedom fighters. The school boasts a library with over 700 books for students and a separate 'Anondo Pathagar' with 150 books to encourage parental reading habits.
The school emphasizes practical learning experiences, such as taking students to observe environmental pollution and then having them present their findings through drawings. Regular cultural events, sports competitions, and creative activities contribute to students' mental development, leading to success in local and regional competitions.
The head teacher, AKM Shamsul Islam Patwari, is a former student of the school who received a scholarship in 1977. He attributes the school's success to the competitive spirit among students and their regular attendance. In 2022, all 20 students who took the primary scholarship exam passed, earning scholarships.
