In an effort to streamline tax administration and improve taxpayer services, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has mandated that all businesses transition from their old Business Identification Numbers (BINs) to new ones by November 30, 2026. This move follows the restructuring of Value Added Tax (VAT) Commissionerates aimed at enhancing the tax net, increasing revenue collection, and fostering a more business-friendly environment.

Restructuring and New BINs

The NBR has reorganized the jurisdiction of existing VAT Commissionerates and established new ones to expand the tax net and ensure a more efficient tax system. As part of this restructuring, businesses' BINs have been reassigned to newly designated jurisdictions. Notably, only the last four digits of the BIN have been altered to reflect the respective VAT Commissionerate and division, while all other business information remains unchanged.

Transition Period and Temporary Measures

To ensure uninterrupted import and export operations during the transition, both old and new BINs of affected businesses have been temporarily activated in the Customs ASYCUDA World system. This allows businesses to complete ongoing customs procedures using their previous BINs until the transition period ends.

Deadline and Post-Deadline Operations

The NBR has urged businesses to complete all pending activities under their old BINs and transition to the new ones by the deadline. After November 30, 2026, the old BINs will be automatically deactivated in the Customs ASYCUDA World system, and all customs-related import and export activities must be conducted using the new BINs exclusively.

Why This Matters for Bangladesh

This transition is part of the government's broader administrative reform initiative aimed at making the indirect tax system more dynamic, efficient, and modern. By updating the BINs, the NBR seeks to enhance revenue collection and provide better taxpayer services, contributing to the overall economic stability and growth of Bangladesh.
