Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury stated that Bangladeshis spend more out-of-pocket on healthcare than Afghans. He mentioned this during a seminar on 'Budget 2026-27: Expectations and Realities' organized by the Economic Reporters Forum (ERF) in Paltan, Dhaka. The minister emphasized the need to address this critical situation in the health sector by implementing 'Universal Health Care' to ensure primary healthcare for all citizens. He assured that the selection process for Family Card beneficiaries would be transparent and free from political interference. The pilot project for Family Card showed a deviation rate of only 1 to 1.5 percent, which is being corrected to ensure at least 99.99 percent accuracy in future implementations.
