Bangladesh Railway has restored train services on the Dhaka-Chattogram-Cox's Bazar route after completing emergency repairs to the damaged Janalihat-Sholashahar section, which was affected by heavy rainfall and flash floods. As a result, train services on the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar and Chattogram-Cox's Bazar routes resumed normal operations today. Continuous heavy rainfall and flash floods over the past few days inundated the railway track between Janalihat and Sholashahar stations, rendering the section temporarily unfit for train operations and disrupting rail services.

Emergency Repairs and Resumption of Services

Following an improvement in the flood situation, Bangladesh Railway undertook immediate repair work on the damaged track. Through round-the-clock efforts, the Janalihat-Sholashahar section was made operational within a short time. As part of the resumption of services, the Parjatak Express, which left Dhaka this afternoon, continued its journey from Chattogram to Cox's Bazar after crossing the repaired section.

Regular Schedules Resumed

Bangladesh Railway said all trains on the Dhaka-Cox's Bazar, Chattogram-Cox's Bazar, Cox's Bazar-Chattogram and Cox's Bazar-Dhaka routes will operate according to their regular schedules from today. The railway authorities expressed regret for the temporary disruption to passenger services caused by the sudden natural disaster and thanked passengers for their patience and cooperation.

Significance and Implications

The resumption of train services on this route is crucial for both passenger travel and freight transport. This route connects major cities and tourist destinations, facilitating easier movement for people and goods. The quick restoration of services highlights the efficiency of Bangladesh Railway in handling emergencies and ensuring the continuity of rail operations.

Future Preparedness

This incident underscores the vulnerability of railway infrastructure to natural disasters. It is essential for Bangladesh Railway to continue investing in resilient infrastructure and disaster preparedness measures to minimize future disruptions. Regular maintenance and timely repairs are critical to ensuring the safety and reliability of train services.
