State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku announced an initiative to restore and redesign Rajshahi Central Park and Zoo, once a main recreational attraction in the city. Tuku, accompanied by Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton and officials from the Department of Livestock Services, inspected the zoo with plans to modernize and redevelop it into a safari park.
Expert Team to Assess and Recommend
Tuku mentioned that a team of experts will be sent to assess the current condition of the zoo and provide recommendations for the redesign. The state minister emphasized the need to investigate the relocation and current status of the zoo's animals, promising necessary measures will be taken based on the findings.
Government Initiatives for Public Welfare
During his visit, Tuku highlighted the various public welfare initiatives undertaken by the government, including the distribution of family and farmer cards, canal excavation, nationwide tree plantation programs, agricultural loan waivers, and honorariums for imams. He praised Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for his tireless work for the welfare of the people.
City Development Under New Leadership
Tuku also acknowledged the progress made in Rajshahi's city development under the leadership of Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, particularly in areas of cleanliness and drainage management. He noted ongoing tree plantation and development activities in the city.
Alleged Mismanagement Under Previous Government
The state minister alleged that mismanagement and corruption during the previous government led to the loss of the zoo's heritage and pushed it to the brink of collapse. He stressed the importance of restoring the zoo to its former glory.
