Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today sought cooperation from the countrymen to keep Bangladesh clean. "We all must work together if we want to make our country beautiful, safe, and livable," he said. The premier emphasized that individual efforts are crucial in maintaining a clean environment.
Addressing Local Villagers
Tarique Rahman made these remarks while addressing local villagers after inaugurating a tree plantation programme on the bank of the Sarikal–Batajor Canal in Gournadi upazila. He highlighted the importance of personal responsibility in keeping the surroundings clean.
Personal Habits and Environmental Impact
Referring to his personal habit of carrying used tissues in his pocket, the Prime Minister said, "If you check my pocket now, you will find a tissue there. I used it a little while ago after washing my hands, and I kept it in my pocket. If I threw it here, then I would not be following what I am asking you to do." He encouraged citizens to adopt similar habits to contribute to a cleaner environment.
Collective Responsibility
The Prime Minister drew attention to two plastic bottles floating in the Sarikal–Batajor Canal, saying, "Look, there are plastic bottles floating in the canal. If there are five or seven people in a household and only one person cleans the house while the others keep making it dirty all day, is it possible to keep that house clean? The country is just like our home. If only a few people clean while everyone else continues to litter, it will not be possible to keep clean. We all have to work together to keep the country clean. Garbage must be disposed of only where it belongs."
Health and Environmental Benefits
Tarique Rahman warned that improper waste disposal not only looks unpleasant but also pollutes the environment and harms health. He called upon everyone to contribute to building a healthy and beautiful country for future generations, urging them to pledge to protect and keep clean their homes, roads, and neighbourhoods.
Significance and Future Actions
The Prime Minister's call for a nationwide cleanliness drive underscores the critical need for collective action in environmental conservation. By fostering a culture of responsibility and cleanliness, Bangladesh can improve its image both domestically and internationally, attracting more visitors and creating a healthier living environment for its citizens. The success of this initiative will depend on the active participation of every individual in the country.
