The 42nd death anniversary of Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan, former Chief of Naval Staff and minister, will be observed with various programmes across the country and abroad.

The 42nd death anniversary of Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan, former Chief of Naval Staff and former communications and agriculture minister, will be observed tomorrow with due respect and solemnity across Bangladesh and abroad. Mahbub Ali Khan, who passed away on August 6, 1984, is remembered for his contributions to the modernization of the Bangladesh Navy, public service, philanthropy, and national development.

How will the anniversary be observed?

The observance will begin with the placing of floral wreaths at his grave beside the Naval Headquarters in Dhaka. Holy Quran Khatam, Quran Khawani, and special prayers will also be held there. Bangladesh Navy will pay tribute to its former chief by placing a wreath at his mausoleum in the morning.

What other events are planned?

Food will be distributed among underprivileged people, while special doa mahfils will be held after Zuhr prayers at Bangladesh Navy mosques across the country. Quran Khatam, Quran Khawani, and doa mahfils will also be arranged at Mahbub Bhaban and various mosques, madrasas, and orphanages in Dhaka, Sylhet, Bogura, and Jamalpur.

Yes, programmes marking the anniversary have been arranged in Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Malaysia, China, South Korea, Singapore, and the Maldives, where expatriate Bangladeshis and well-wishers will offer special prayers for the late Rear Admiral.

What future initiatives are planned?

The family announced plans to establish the Rear Admiral Mahbub Ali Khan Memorial Trust to promote cardiovascular research, scientific innovation, and social service. An Institute of Preventive Cardiology and Research is also planned in his birthplace, Sylhet, to provide awareness and treatment services, particularly for underprivileged patients.
