KCC Administrator Urges Immediate Replacement of Hazardous Wooden Bridge Over Mayur River

Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju has called for the immediate replacement of a dilapidated wooden bridge over the Mayur River at the end of Mahatab Uddin Road in Ward No. 18, adjacent to the Sonadanga Bus Terminal. The administrator inspected the site following a report on social media highlighting the bridge's hazardous condition.

Unsafe Structure

Describing the structure as unsafe for public use, Manju emphasized the necessity of constructing a new bridge to ease commuters' suffering and ensure the safe movement of residents. He stressed that the current bridge poses significant risks to those who use it daily.

Previous Requests and Plans

Manju revealed that the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) had been previously requested to construct several bridges over the Mayur River. Designs for two bridges have already been prepared, but the bridge on Mahatab Uddin Road was not included in the plan.

Future Actions

The KCC administrator announced that the city corporation would request LGED to incorporate the bridge into its project. If LGED is unable to do so, KCC will take the initiative to construct the bridge itself. Manju also directed relevant officials to remove water hyacinths from the Mayur River to improve water flow and the river's environment.

Significance for the Community

The replacement of the bridge is crucial for the safety and convenience of local residents and commuters. The current condition of the bridge not only poses a risk to users but also hinders smooth traffic flow in the area. The new bridge will significantly enhance the quality of life for those living and working nearby.
