A Khulna court has sentenced a man to death for murdering his wife in 2016.

A Khulna court today sentenced a man to death for murdering his wife in Batiaghata upazila in 2016. The convict, Md. Mukul Kagaji, was also fined Tk 50,000, with an additional five years' rigorous imprisonment in default of payment. He was absent during the pronouncement of the verdict.

Background of the Case

Mukul married Mosammat Hena Begum in 2013. The couple had a son, but Mukul frequently assaulted his wife after the marriage. On September 8, 2016, following a family dispute, Mukul allegedly beat Hena at their Shantinagar residence. As she left home to inform her aunt about the assault, Mukul followed her and struck her on the head with a brick near Ashik's Bhita, killing her before fleeing the scene.

Legal Proceedings

The victim's father filed a murder case with Batiaghata Police Station the following day. Sub-Inspector Bodhon Chandra Biswas submitted the charge sheet against Mukul Kagaji to the court on October 31, 2016. Additional District and Sessions Judge (Fourth Court) Md. Khurshid Alam delivered the verdict. Bench Assistant Md. Shah Alam confirmed the judgment.
