Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has directed police officers to discharge their duties with professionalism and impartiality. Speaking at the DMP's monthly crime review meeting for June 2026 at the DMP Headquarters, the commissioner emphasized that maintaining law and order requires every member of the force to perform their assigned responsibilities effectively.
Impartial Policing
Commissioner Ahmed stressed that police must serve the public without favouring any individual, group, or political party. He noted that criminals have no political affiliation, ideology, or social identity, and thus, police actions should be impartial and based solely on the law.
Tougher Action Against Crime
The DMP chief instructed officers to intensify regular drives against illegal firearms, muggers, drug traffickers, and extortionists. He urged them to remain vigilant to prevent crime within their respective police station jurisdictions.
Recognition and Discipline
Ahmed announced that police personnel demonstrating outstanding performance would be rewarded. Conversely, strict disciplinary action would be taken against those found negligent, violating discipline, or engaging in conduct that tarnishes the image of the police force.
Optimism for the Future
Expressing optimism, the commissioner said the collective efforts of all officers would further strengthen DMP's ability to maintain law and order and ensure public safety in the capital. During the meeting, he presented awards to officers of different ranks in recognition of their outstanding contributions to law enforcement, crime prevention, and public safety in Dhaka during June.
Significance for Bangladesh
This directive underscores the importance of impartial and effective policing in maintaining public safety and order in Dhaka. By intensifying drives against various criminal activities and ensuring accountability within the force, the DMP aims to enhance its capability to protect citizens and uphold the rule of law. This move is crucial for building public trust in law enforcement agencies and ensuring a safer environment for all residents.
