The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has launched a free shuttle service at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) to improve passenger connectivity with nearby transport hubs and enhance the overall travel experience. The service, funded by CAAB, was inaugurated by HSIA Executive Director Group Captain S M Ragib Samad at a ceremony held in front of the airport canopy.

Free Shuttle Routes and Benefits

The shuttle buses will operate free of charge on three routes: Airport–Airport Bus Stand, Jasimuddin Intersection–Airport Railway Station, and Kawla–Airport. The initiative has been introduced under the guidance of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism and the supervision of the CAAB chairman to provide passengers with safer, easier and more convenient transportation between key access points surrounding the airport.

The authority said the service is expected to particularly benefit elderly passengers, women, children, persons with disabilities and travellers carrying heavy luggage. CAAB also expected the initiative to reduce dependence on private vehicles, ease traffic congestion around the airport, promote environmentally friendly transport and further improve the quality of passenger services.

Significance and Future Plans

Speaking at the inauguration, Group Captain Ragib Samad said CAAB has been implementing a series of passenger-friendly initiatives to enhance service quality, improve convenience and ensure international-standard facilities at the country's principal international gateway. He said the free shuttle service would enable passengers to save time while ensuring safer, more efficient and hassle-free transportation between the airport and surrounding transport nodes.

Senior officials of CAAB and HSIA, representatives of stakeholder organisations and members of the media attended the inauguration ceremony. This new service is part of ongoing efforts to modernize and improve facilities at HSIA, making it more accessible and convenient for all passengers.

Why This Matters

The introduction of this free shuttle service is a significant step towards enhancing passenger experience at HSIA. By providing convenient and free transportation options, CAAB aims to reduce traffic congestion, promote eco-friendly travel, and ensure that all passengers, regardless of their physical abilities or the amount of luggage they carry, can travel with ease and safety. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to improving the quality of service at Bangladesh's principal international airport.
