A boat carrying eight passengers capsized in the Padma River at Bishpur Ferry Ghat near Barakuthi in Rajshahi this afternoon. Six passengers were rescued, but boatman Kawsar Ali and his son Ziarul Islam remain missing. Rescue operations are ongoing with the support of the Rajshahi City Corporation, Fire Service, and local administration.

The incident occurred as the boat, originating from Shyampur Jianagar, was navigating the river. The immediate response from a nearby City Corporation-approved boat and local residents led to the rescue of six individuals. However, efforts to locate Kawsar Ali and Ziarul Islam continue.

Upon receiving the news, Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton directed officials to visit the site. A delegation, including RCC Secretary Sohel Rana and Fire Service personnel, arrived to oversee the rescue operations. They assured full cooperation with the rescue agencies.

The ongoing rescue mission involves members of the local administration, Fire Service, and other concerned agencies. The search for the missing boatman and his son is being conducted with utmost urgency.

The Padma River, a significant waterway in Bangladesh, is known for its heavy traffic of boats and ferries. Accidents, though not frequent, can occur due to various factors including weather conditions and overloading. The local authorities are committed to ensuring the safety of river travelers.
