The Dhaka–Chattogram Highway and Dhaka–Mawa Highway are now under comprehensive CCTV and advanced AI-powered surveillance as part of the government's 'zero tolerance' policy against crimes and narcotics. The Highway Police is centrally monitoring these highways with the new technology.

Surveillance Expansion

Additional Inspector General (IGP) of Highway Police Faruk Ahmed informed that the entire Dhaka–Chattogram Highway is now under CCTV coverage, with 16 key points equipped with AI cameras. Similarly, the Dhaka–Mawa Highway has been brought under the same surveillance coverage.

Operational Efficiency and Crime Prevention

The installation of CCTV and AI cameras is expected to improve operational efficiency and strengthen efforts to prevent highway crimes, including robberies and the transportation of narcotics. The Highway Police is set to sign an MoU with the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry to officially operate the AI-powered surveillance system.

Future Plans and Community Policing

Authorities plan to bring remaining highways under similar surveillance to address traffic congestion and highway crimes. Efforts are also focused on promoting community-oriented policing to build public trust and encourage active participation. The Highway Police aims to make highways extortion- and hassle-free within the next two months.
