On Sunday, Ukraine escalated its attacks on Russian territory, striking multiple regions and resulting in the deaths of at least eight people, according to Russian officials. The attacks targeted areas far from the frontline, raising concerns about the conflict's scope and potential escalation. Kyiv denies targeting civilians, asserting that the strikes are a form of retaliation for Russian bombardments on Ukrainian soil and a tactic to push for negotiations.

In the Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine, three people were killed due to shelling. Meanwhile, a drone attack in the Saratov region, near Kazakhstan, claimed two lives. Additionally, a drone strike in Udmurtia, over 1,000 kilometers from the front line, resulted in three fatalities. Olga Abramova, the acting governor of Udmurtia, condemned the attack, stating it was senseless and not aimed at a military target.

The Russian defense ministry reported that its air defenses intercepted 635 Ukrainian drones overnight. Both Moscow and Kyiv have intensified their attacks in recent months, while efforts led by the US to broker peace talks have largely stalled. The strikes come as tensions between the two nations remain high, with each side accusing the other of aggression.

As the conflict continues to unfold, the international community watches closely, with implications extending beyond the immediate region. For Bangladesh, this escalation highlights the broader geopolitical instability and its potential impact on global security dynamics.
