US President Donald Trump threatened Yemen's Houthi rebels with'major military punishment' after they launched missile and drone strikes on oil tankers in the Red Sea. Trump stated that the U.S. will hold Iran responsible, as the Houthis are considered a proxy of Iran. He warned that further attacks by the Houthis will result in severe retaliation against both Iran and the Houthis themselves.

In a post on his Truth Social network, Trump said, 'The U.S. will hold Iran responsible, in that the Houthis are a Surrogate and/or Proxy of Iran, and major military punishment will be inflicted upon Iran and, of course, the Houthis themselves' should the rebels launch further attacks.

The Houthis, who control much of Yemen, have been engaged in a conflict with a Saudi-led coalition since 2015. The recent attacks on oil tankers have raised concerns about the stability of the region and the safety of international shipping routes.

Trump's threat comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, with the U.S. and its allies seeking to deter further aggression from Iran and its proxies. The situation underscores the complex geopolitical dynamics at play in the region.
