Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman arrived in the Maldives today on an official visit aimed at further strengthening longstanding bilateral relations and exploring new avenues of cooperation between the two countries. The visit, which runs from July 25 to 27, coincides with the 61st anniversary of the Maldives' independence. Dr Khalilur was received by Maldivian Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam and senior officials upon arrival.
Describing the visit as a 'significant milestone,' the Maldivian Foreign Ministry highlighted the importance of enhanced cooperation in the years ahead. During the visit, Dr Khalilur is scheduled to meet with Maldivian President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and hold bilateral talks with Foreign Minister Adam. These discussions will focus on strengthening the Bangladesh-Maldives partnership and reviewing the broad spectrum of bilateral cooperation.
The two sides are also expected to exchange views on regional and international developments and reaffirm their commitment to continued cooperation in regional and multilateral forums. Bangladesh and the Maldives maintain close relations in trade, employment, tourism, education, health, and people-to-people contacts, with a sizeable Bangladeshi expatriate community contributing to the Maldivian economy.
This marks Dr Khalilur's first official visit to the Maldives since assuming office as Bangladesh's Foreign Minister on February 17 this year. The visit underscores the importance of the Bangladesh-Maldives relationship and the potential for further collaboration in various sectors.
