Spain's football coach, Luis de la Fuente, has declared that his team will go on the 'front foot' against France in the highly anticipated World Cup semi-final. Speaking at a press conference, de la Fuente outlined his strategy to impose Spain's possession-based game on the French, emphasizing the importance of seizing the initiative in this clash of football philosophies.
Despite France being considered the favourites by betting markets, de la Fuente remains confident, drawing on Spain's recent victories over Les Bleus. 'We've already analyzed France in great detail,' he said. 'We faced each other for a few years now and they have great players, but so do we. We have to put all of our virtues on the table and try to counteract the strengths of the opponent.'
The Spanish coach acknowledged the significant improvement in the French squad since their last encounter, where Spain won 5-4 in a thrilling UEFA Nations League semi-final. 'They are a better team, far better, because those players have grown,' de la Fuente noted. 'What they are doing now, is better than what they were doing then. So they've improved their skills in the past two years, and that's the reality.'
Controlling possession and tempo will be crucial, according to de la Fuente, who also urged his players to enjoy the challenge. 'Let's get out there and enjoy it,' he said. 'We are in a unique setting. Who knows whether we will come back? We must be the team that we know that we can be. We must be strong and try to counter the strength of the opponent.'
The semi-final, set to take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, promises to be a gripping encounter. With both teams showcasing distinct playing styles, the match is expected to highlight the tactical acumen of both coaches and the skill of their players.
