Saraswati Puja, a significant religious festival of the Hindu community, is being celebrated today, Monday. Goddess Saraswati, known as the deity of knowledge and wisdom, is revered on this day. The goddess is depicted wearing white, holding the Vedas in one hand and a veena in the other, earning her the title 'Veenapani'.
Today, various Puja venues across the country, including Dhaka, will resonate with the sounds of drums, gongs, conch shells, and ululations in devotion to Goddess Saraswati. According to scriptures, the worship of the benevolent goddess of knowledge is conducted annually on the Panchami Tithi of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Magh. The Bangladesh Shishu Academy (BAS) reports that the Panchami Tithi began at 12:43 PM on Sunday and will conclude at 10:27 AM today.
Saraswati Puja is observed in schools, colleges, universities, and homes across the nation. In Dhaka, numerous areas and educational institutions are hosting the Puja. According to BAS, this year, approximately 70 Puja pandals will be set up at Jagannath Hall's central worship place and the hall's field at Dhaka University. The main attraction of the Puja pandals at Jagannath Hall will be the visually stunning Saraswati idols crafted by fine arts students. The Dhaka Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission will also conduct the worship of the goddess.
