DHAKA — Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS), has assumed the office of Acting President of Bangladesh following the resignation of President Mohammed Sahabuddin. Ahmad was warmly welcomed with floral bouquets by JS Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam, Attorney General Barrister Md. Ruhul Quddus Kazal, and Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat Secretary Barrister Md. Golam Sarwar Bhuiya.

Earlier today, President Sahabuddin submitted his resignation letter to the Speaker in accordance with Article 50(3) of the Constitution of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. Following the resignation, Ahmad assumed the responsibilities of the President under Article 54 of the Constitution, becoming the Acting President until further constitutional arrangements are made.

Ahmad's assumption of the presidency marks a significant transition period for Bangladesh. As Acting President, he will oversee the country's executive functions until a new president is elected or further constitutional provisions are implemented.

The warm reception and floral greetings signify the importance of this transition. The presence of key political and legal figures underscores the unity and stability expected during this interim period.
