Nine Chhatra League Leaders Arrested in Bhaluka Following Political Rally

Police in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, have arrested nine leaders and activists of the banned Chhatra League following a rally.

Police in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, have arrested nine leaders and activists of the banned Chhatra League following a rally. The arrests were made during raids in various areas of the upazila on Saturday night. The detainees were sent to jail on Sunday under the Speedy Trial Act.

The arrested individuals are Farhad Hossain (28) from Borta village, Nazim Uddin (25) and Saiful (45) from Bhanda village, Mehedi Hasan Alal (32), Iqbal Talukdar (30) from Batajor village, Roni Ghosh (34), former president of Uthura Union Chhatra League, Imon Sheikh (28) from ward 8 of Bhaluka Municipality, Faruk Hasan Mandal (38) from ward 7, and Monir Hossain (34) from Choto Kash village.

According to police sources, a sudden rally was held in the Skuayer Masterbari area of the upazila on Saturday morning, led by Afsanul Islam Khan, the general secretary of the upazila Chhatra League. The rally's photos and videos were later shared on Facebook by the organization's leaders and activists. This led to counter-protests by the upazila Chhatra Dal in the same area in the afternoon.

Sub-inspector (SI) Fazlul Islam of Bhaluka Model Police Station filed a case under the Speedy Trial Act against 55 named individuals and 25-30 unidentified persons. The nine individuals were arrested in connection with this case.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jahidul Islam of Bhaluka Model Police Station stated that the nine individuals were arrested in a special operation. They had been actively involved in Chhatra League politics and participated in the rally. They were sent to jail following the case.
