The police verification process for the recruitment of 14,384 assistant teachers in government primary schools has finally begun. This comes after a two-month halt, following the announcement of the final results on February 8. The Primary Education Department has instructed district primary education offices to send the necessary information of the selected candidates to the respective district police superintendent's offices. Sources indicate that this verification process may be completed within 10 to 15 days.
Although the final results of the teacher recruitment were announced on February 8, the joining process remained uncertain, causing anxiety among the candidates. The recent initiation of the police verification process has brought relief to the candidates.
According to field-level information, the files of the selected candidates have been sent to the police superintendent's offices from the primary education offices of almost all districts, including Lalmonirhat, Thakurgaon, and Faridpur. The District Primary Education Officer of Lalmonirhat, Mominul Islam, confirmed that the necessary information of the finally selected candidates has been sent to the district police superintendent's office on April 28, following the instructions from the Primary Education Department.
The Additional Police Superintendent of Lalmonirhat, Shahadat Hossain Suma, stated that they have received the necessary information from the District Primary Education Office and the police verification process has already started in five upazilas of the district. Sources from the department mentioned that this process has been initiated in all 61 districts of the country in a phased manner.
The Faridpur District Primary Education Officer, Mohiuddin, mentioned that they have handed over all the files to the police administration as quickly as possible. Although it is difficult to specify a timeframe, based on past experience, the police verification process may be completed within 10 to 15 days.
Earlier, on May 3, at the Osmani Smriti Milanayoton during the first day of the District Administrator (DC) Conference, the Education Minister, ANM Ehsanul Haque Milan, assured that more than 14,000 stuck candidates would be appointed very soon. The minister clarified, 'No one will be left out.' However, he hinted at some conditions for the appointment, stating that after joining, the teachers would be sent to the Primary Teacher Training Center (PTI) for training. If they fail to complete the training, they will not be able to become teachers. Additionally, according to government rules, they will be made permanent after successfully completing two years of service.
Despite the announcement of the final results of the teacher recruitment two months ago, the recommended candidates started protests across the country, including in Dhaka, due to the delay in appointments. On April 19, the candidates submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the district administrators of 61 districts at a press conference held at the Madhur Canteen of Dhaka University. Especially after the rumor of the results being'reviewed' spread on social media, the candidates became increasingly anxious. They also submitted a memorandum to the Primary and Mass Education Ministry on April 13. In response to the continuous protests by the candidates, the government assured to expedite the appointment process.
The written examination for the recruitment of assistant teachers was held simultaneously in 61 districts on January 9. Out of more than 10.80 lakh applicants, 14,384 candidates qualified. After the announcement of the final results, the health examination (including dope test) and document verification were completed between February 22 and March 1. Now, with the initiation of the police verification, the candidates are hoping to receive their appointment letters in May.
