Bangladesh and Malaysia have concluded highly productive discussions on labour market cooperation, focusing on expanding employment opportunities, manpower exports, and strengthening bilateral collaboration. The high-level meetings, held at Malaysia's Ministry of Human Resources in Putrajaya, brought together key officials from both nations to exchange views on crucial labour market issues.
Key Discussions and Outcomes
The talks were led by Bangladesh's Adviser to the Prime Minister, Mahdi Amin, and Adviser to the Ministries of Labour and Employment and Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, Ariful Haque Choudhury. They met with Malaysia's Minister of Human Resources, Dato' Sri Ramanan, along with senior officials and stakeholders from both countries. The discussions covered a range of topics, including employment expansion, workers' welfare, and labour migration.
Broader Bilateral Cooperation
In addition to labour market cooperation, the two sides also discussed broader bilateral relations. Adviser Ariful and Prime Minister's Office Spokesperson Mahdi Amin are currently on a three-day official visit to Malaysia. On the first day of the visit, Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held a significant telephone conversation, emphasizing the importance of enhanced cooperation in energy, investment, port development, and economic collaboration. The conversation also touched on Malaysia's support for supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Bangladesh through PETRONAS, investment activities by Axiata Group Berhad, prospects for a strategic partnership, and potential cooperation with MMC Corporation Berhad in the port and infrastructure sectors.
