In an effort to combat the dengue outbreak and address environmental issues, a cleanliness campaign was launched in Puthia upazila of Rajshahi on August 1, 2026. The initiative, themed 'Prevent Dengue and Plastic Polythene Pollution,' was organized by the Upazila Administration and Puthia Municipality at the Puthia Upazila Health Complex. Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Rajshahi, Kazi Shahidul Islam, inaugurated the event, highlighting the collective responsibility to maintain a clean environment.

Public Participation Stressed in Dengue Prevention

Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam emphasized in his speech that while government initiatives are crucial, the active participation of the general public is equally important in preventing dengue. He advised residents to ensure their surroundings are clean and free of stagnant water, which can serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Additionally, he underscored the need to minimize the use of single-use plastics and polythenes to protect the environment.

The campaign's speakers reiterated the importance of regular cleanliness activities and public awareness in dengue prevention. They also called for reducing plastic and polythene usage to safeguard the environment. Following the inauguration, attendees participated in a cleanliness drive and inspected the cleaning efforts at the Upazila Health Complex premises.

Significance of the Campaign

The campaign in Puthia upazila reflects a broader strategy to tackle dengue and environmental pollution in Rajshahi. By engaging local authorities, government officials, and the community, the initiative aims to create a healthier and safer living environment. The focus on cleanliness and public awareness is expected to significantly reduce the incidence of dengue and mitigate environmental degradation caused by plastic waste.

The collaboration between various government departments and local bodies demonstrates a united front against these pressing issues. The success of the campaign in Puthia could serve as a model for other areas, promoting a culture of cleanliness and environmental responsibility across Rajshahi.

The Deputy Commissioner's call to action highlights the need for sustained efforts from all stakeholders. By fostering a community-driven approach to cleanliness, the campaign aims to create lasting change and ensure the well-being of future generations.
