World Bank Division Director in Bangladesh Jean Pesme met with Prime Minister's Adviser and spokesperson of the Prime Minister's Office Mahdi Amin at the Premier's Office today. The meeting focused on various priority programmes of the government, including the Family Card, Farmer Card, employment opportunities, women's employment, technical and vocational education, and economic empowerment of marginalised women.

Key Discussion Points

The discussions highlighted the effective expansion of the Family Card programme, ensuring greater inclusion of poor and marginalised people, especially women. The meeting also emphasised the development of skilled human resources and strengthening an employment-oriented education system. Detailed talks were held on grassroots empowerment, priorities of the BNP's election manifesto, government policies, and effective implementation strategies.

World Bank's Role

World Bank representatives expressed interest in sharing experiences of implementing development programmes in different countries. They also offered technical support for the government's priority programmes and willingness to work jointly in relevant sectors. The World Bank delegation included Gayle Martin, Dhruv Sharma, Aneeka Rahman, Syed Rashed, Al-Zayed Josh, and Shrayana Bhattacharya.

This meeting signifies a collaborative effort between the World Bank and the Bangladeshi government to address critical socio-economic challenges and implement effective development strategies.
