In a significant move to address the growing demand for green skills in Bangladesh's emerging labour market, the Technical and Madrasah Education Division (TMED) of the Ministry of Education and GIZ, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), have signed a landmark Implementation Agreement. This agreement formalizes a joint commitment to advance the Vocational Training in the Field of Renewable Energy (TVET4RE) project.
Ceremony and Key Stakeholders
The signing ceremony took place in Dhaka, attended by high-level dignitaries, government officials, and international development professionals. Md. Daud Miah ndc, Secretary of TMED, highlighted the importance of this agreement, stating, "Today's signing represents more than the formalisation of a project. It reflects the longstanding friendship and strong development partnership between the Governments of Bangladesh and Germany."
Project Overview and Goals
The TVET4RE project aims to directly address the growing demand for green skills by translating high-level policy into practical, long-term technical capacities. This initiative aligns seamlessly with the goals of the Bangladesh TVET Implementation Plan 2025-2030, ensuring institutional integration. The project is part of Germany’s commitment of EUR 21.77 million in January 2026 for sustainable development projects in Bangladesh.
Strategic Bilateral Portfolio
During the ceremony, representatives presented an overview of GIZ’s strategic bilateral portfolio, showcasing how both TVET4RE and the Professional Education in Industrial and Environmental Safety (PRECISE) project work in tandem to foster green skills, drive ecological balance, and promote economic capability in Bangladesh.
Key Stakeholders and Future Steps
The event was attended by Abul Khayer Md. Akkas Ali, Director General of the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Shamshur Rahman Khan, Additional Secretary (Development) of TMED, Engr. Md. Ruhul Amin, Chairman of the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB), and Jannis Hussain, Deputy Head of Cooperation (First Secretary) of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bangladesh. The ceremony concluded with an open floor discussion and Q&A session involving key stakeholders, reinforcing a holistic approach to Germany's development cooperation in the country.
Why This Matters
This initiative is crucial for Bangladesh as it seeks to build a capable workforce with the necessary skills for the sustainable energy sector. By fostering green skills and promoting ecological balance, the project not only supports economic development but also aligns with global efforts to combat climate change. The successful implementation of TVET4RE will play a significant role in shaping the future of renewable energy in Bangladesh.
