Bangladesh received US$2.018 billion in remittances during the first 20 days of July, marking a 23.1 percent increase compared with the corresponding period of the previous year. This robust growth in remittance inflows is expected to strengthen the country's foreign exchange reserves, support external sector stability, and contribute positively to the national economy during the early part of the 2026-27 fiscal year.
According to the latest data from Bangladesh Bank, expatriate Bangladeshis sent home US$2.018 billion during the period from July 1 to July 20, 2026, against US$1.639 billion received during the same period in 2025. On July 20 alone, inward remittances amounted to US$75 million.
Remittances are a critical source of foreign exchange for Bangladesh, significantly contributing to the country's economy. The consistent rise in these inflows underscores the strong financial support provided by expatriate Bangladeshis, who play a vital role in the nation's economic stability.
The surge in remittance inflows is particularly significant as it comes at the beginning of the new fiscal year. This early boost is expected to have a positive impact on the country's foreign exchange reserves, which are crucial for maintaining economic stability and supporting various sectors of the economy.
