Three people, including two women, were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a battery-run autorickshaw near the Rural Electrification Office on the Mymensingh–Kishoreganj road in Shambhuganj area on Tuesday noon. The deceased were identified as Abeda Khatun, 35, wife of Rafiqul Islam of Majhipara in Raghurampur under Mymensingh Sadar upazila, Shila Akter, 25, daughter of A. Motaleb of Dadra village in Tarakanda upazila, and Debraj Ghosh, 35, son of Dilip Ghosh of Jubal Ghat area in Mymensingh city.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Khalid of Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station confirmed the incident. According to police and locals, the battery-run autorickshaw was traveling from Shambhuganj towards Kishoreganj when it collided head-on with a truck emerging from a truck depot near the Rural Electrification Office.

Debraj Ghosh died on the spot, while the autorickshaw driver and four passengers sustained injuries. The injured were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Shila Akter and Abeda Khatun dead.

Police said the situation at the scene is now under control, and legal proceedings are underway. Road accidents are a significant concern in Bangladesh, often attributed to factors such as reckless driving, poor road conditions, and lack of enforcement of traffic laws.

The Mymensingh–Kishoreganj road, a vital artery connecting several upazilas, has witnessed numerous accidents in the past. Locals often call for improved road safety measures and stricter enforcement to prevent such tragedies.
