The government has announced plans to construct 101 parks across Bangladesh to address the acute shortage of parks, playgrounds, and open spaces. Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher disclosed this in the Jatiya Sangsad while responding to a question from opposition bench lawmaker Nurul Islam.
Minister Zakaria Taher stated that data collection is currently underway for the proposed park construction nationwide. Several Development Project Proposals (DPP) are awaiting approval, including projects for Anwara Udyan at Farmgate, Dhaka, and playgrounds in Rampura, Khilgaon High School, and Khilgaon Rehabilitation Area.
The minister highlighted recent progress, mentioning the completion of two parks in Chattogram and two in Cox's Bazar, as well as the modernisation of Ramna Park in Dhaka. Another park is currently under construction in Tarakanda of Mymensingh district.
Zakaria Taher emphasized the government's commitment to environmental protection in all development activities. Special emphasis is being placed on constructing multistoried buildings to optimize land use, using advanced construction technologies, environmentally friendly materials, and energy-efficient systems.
The planned construction of 101 parks is expected to significantly enhance public access to open spaces, promote environmental sustainability, and contribute to the overall urban development of Bangladesh.
