Coast Guard Arrests Three Armed Jonab Bahini Members in Sundarbans

Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested three members of Jonab Bahini, accused of various crimes in the Sundarbans, along with arms and ammunition.

Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested three members of Jonab Bahini, accused of various crimes in the Sundarbans, along with arms and ammunition. The arrests were made during a raid in the Shyamnagar Upazila of Satkhira on Tuesday evening.

The arrested individuals are Azibar Gazi (47), Rabiul Gazi (44), and Faruk Hossain (36), all residents of Shyamnagar Upazila. Coast Guard claims they are members of Jonab Bahini and have been involved in robberies and kidnapping fishermen and woodcutters for ransom in the Sundarbans area for a long time.

According to a press release by Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, the operation was conducted based on secret information. During the raid, the Coast Guard recovered a single-barrel gun and two live cartridges from the Harinta area of Shyamnagar Thana.

Legal action is being taken against the arrested individuals and the recovered arms and ammunition. The Coast Guard mentioned that special operations named 'Operation Restore Peace in Sundarban' and 'Operation Mangrove Shield' are being conducted under their leadership to eliminate active forest bandit groups in the Sundarbans region.
