CAAB Chairman: Agreement for 3rd Terminal Operations at Hazrat Shahjalal Airport Likely by September

Bangladesh is set to finalize an agreement with a Japanese consortium for the operation of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport's (HSIA) Third Terminal by late August or early September.

Bangladesh is expected to sign an agreement with a Japanese consortium by late August or early September to operate the Third Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), according to CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Mostafa Mahmood Siddiq. The Chairman disclosed this while addressing journalists at the CAAB headquarters today. The consortium is expected to submit its bid on July 31, after which a decision will be made. The terminal is slated to inaugurate on December 16, provided everything proceeds as planned. CAAB is also taking a tougher stance against unauthorized drone operations in sensitive areas, particularly around airports. Siddiq advised those intending to operate drones in such areas to comply with relevant rules and regulations.

Operational Timeline and Bid Submission

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Chairman clarified that the consortium will submit its bid on July 31. A decision will be taken after the bid submission, followed by the signing of the agreement by late August or early September. The next steps will be finalized after the agreement is signed, aiming for an inauguration on December 16.

Enhanced Security Measures for Drones

In addition to the terminal operations, CAAB Chairman Mostafa Mahmood Siddiq highlighted the authority's tougher stance against unauthorized drone operations in sensitive areas, particularly around airports. He emphasized the importance of compliance with relevant rules and regulations for those intending to operate drones in such areas.
