Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered four illegal firearms, ammunition, and Indian currency following an exchange of fire with a group of armed smugglers along the Jaminipara border in Khagrachhari early today. Acting on a tip-off, a special operational team of Jaminipara Battalion (23 BGB) conducted a raid in the Singhapara border area under the Dewanbari Border Outpost (BOP) in Tabalchhari Union.
Raid and Recovery
At around 3:10 am, the BGB team spotted a group of five to six armed smugglers attempting to enter Bangladesh illegally after crossing the international border. When challenged by BGB personnel, the smugglers fled the scene. During a subsequent search, BGB members recovered an abandoned backpack containing one 7.65mm pistol, one 9mm pistol, two 12-bore LG pistols, 14 rounds of ammunition, five rounds of FCC, and 1,600 Indian rupees.
Exchange of Fire
The armed smugglers later returned and opened fire on the BGB team in an attempt to snatch the seized firearms and other items. BGB personnel retaliated in self-defence, triggering an intermittent exchange of gunfire. The smugglers eventually managed to flee the scene.
